Outer Banks Transportation Project - Outer Banks Transportation Task Force

Bicycle – Pedestrian Transportation Committee

The purpose of this committee is to develop plans and set priorities that will lead to a connected network of bicycle and pedestrian pathways, which are usable for transportation.  Over the past two decades, Dare and Currituck Counties and all of the Dare County Towns have constructed many paths; most of these efforts have been focused on providing safe places to walk, run, skate, or ride a bicycle for fun.  And, although the various jurisdictions have coordinated – to some extent – to provide connectivity of paths between them, there are still a lot of gaps to be filled.  In addition, the efforts of at least four other entities need to be coordinated by this committee – the three-county Scenic Byway Committee, the Roanoke Island Corridor Commission, the Colington Island Homeowners Association and the National Park Service.
