Outer Banks Transportation Project - Outer Banks Transportation Task Force
Transportation Demand Committee

The purpose of this committee is to define and plan for strategies that will reduce the number of vehicles on roads and bridges which serve the Outer Banks – especially during the times when they are most congested. Possibilities – suggested by the ITRE Study – include, but are not limited to:

      • Changes in check-in and check-out days for seasonal rental homes;
      • Limits on parking and/or parking fees;
      • Share-a-ride program to provide alternative transportation for the Outer Banks workforce;
      • Zoning for future mixed-use development;
      • Education campaigns and incentives to encourage use of trolley-bus service -when it is implemented - and to discourage use of private vehicles;
      • Improved traffic control schemes to reroute traffic in the aftermath of an accident.
